KING
MO
According to the critics and the crowds that the band are attracting,
King MO are probably the hottest blues band in Holland today. Touring
since April 2009, all the members are veterans of the European festival
circuit having played with their former bands at major events such as
North Sea Jazz, Noorderslag, BRBF Peer, Moulin Blues Ospel and in venues
such as Melkweg Amsterdam and Forest National in Brussels.
Lefty-guitarist ‘young’ Sjors Nederlof is undoubtedly the center of
attention in the band. He has toured extensively with Coup de Grace and
the Strikes, as well as recorded and toured with Tino Gonzales. His
unique Fender sound leaves no one untouched. Where other guitarists need
a complete pedal board to create their sound, Sjors just needs his
fingers.
Singer Phil Bee has performed and toured with the likes of Noel Redding
(Jimi Hendrix Experience), Jan
Akkerman, Steve Lukather (Toto) and Ana
Popovic. With his previous band Phil Bee and the Buzztones he has
played major festivals and venues (see above), as well as recording 2
CD’s with the band on the independent Inbetweens label.
Hammond organist Colly Franssen and bass player Jules van Bussel were
also members of Phil Bee and the Buzztones. Colly has performed with a
long list of musicians, from Jan Akkerman to Bertus Borgers to Arno
Adams, in many cases along with Jules.
Drummer Henk Punter has earned his stripes playing and recording with
the likes of Memo Gonzales, Monti Amunson,
Lazy Lester, T-99 to name a few. He is a blues drummer with heart
and soul, responsible for King MO’s fat grooves.
Having established themselves in 2009, King MO have headlined major
blues festivals throughout Holland (Drijf-In-Giethoorn, Grolsch
Bluesfest Enschede, Bluesnight Asten etc). The band have played to and
amazed crowds of thousands of people, not necessarily all blues fans.
King MO’s music can best be described as soulful blues with a rock-edge.
In addition to their original songs they play King MO arrangements of
Freddie King and Ian Siegal tunes. Their live at La Bonbonnière CD was
elected ‘Best CD of the year 2009’ by the readers of
Blues Forum and
Blues Forum (Dutch)
. The most read websites in the Netherlands and Belgium. Grooveyard
Records (USA) contracted the band and will release the award winning CD
in the USA November 2010.
April 2010 the band releases it’s 2nd CD, ‘Sweet Devil’ , on Firesea
Records. Reviews our unanymous, the band is ready to make the
international move. After having played the biggest bluesfest in Holland
(Ribs & Bluese Raalte) the Dutch Blues Foundation elected the band to
participate at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, USA,
February 2011. October 2010 the band was nominated in 3 categories for
the Dutch Blues Awards, best band, best guitarist and best vocalist.
