The Kingsnakes are one of the most talented Blues
bands from the city of Syracuse, New York. The Kingsnakes were the
hottest ticket around during the 1980's and were called on to open
up for many great Blues acts who passed through the Northeast, such
as Stevie Ray Vaughan,
John Lee Hooker and
Savoy Brown. The band also
accompanied John Lee Hooker during many of his east coast dates and
Pete McMahan, Vocals/harmonica, spent time on the road with
Savoy
Brown. Kenny Baker & Deacon Jones, from Hooker's band, worked with
the Kingsnakes on a few projects and would sometimes join the guys
on stage in Syracuse.
Greg Spencer, Blue Wave Records, and Terry Mulhauser, lead guitarist
for the Snakes, found a few of these live recordings and put
together the tracks for this disc which were recorded at
Copperfield's in Syracuse on 7/22/89. The release coincides with a
long awaited reunion when the band played at this year's New York
State Rhythm'N'Blues Festival in Syracuse on 7/18/04. There's some
talk that the guys may get together for a few select gigs and I
would encourage everyone to get out to see and feel the energy of
this incredible homebrewed band.
